Amazing

October 23rd, 2009 § 0

Perhaps it’s because I used to be in customer service (of the food variety, specifically) and anyone who has or does this kind of work has a gigantic savings account full of customer service karma, or maybe it’s just luck… But I have recently had some of the absolute best customer service experiences over the last several months.

Today, however, takes the cake.

I won’t give specifics on the item (as you will see, it is a gift), but here is the literal transcript between myself and Eric from Etsy:

Me at 12:53pm:

Hello,
I wanted to thank you so much for the SUGAR TIME- I love all of your clocks!
I purchased the sugar time on Monday and it is now Friday and it doesn’t look like it has been sent. This is a gift for my dad, whose birthday is tomorrow, and I had figured that purchasing on Monday would be enough time to receive it in time (give or take)- but now I worry that it hasn’t even been sent.
Could you update me on the status for my item, please? As I will most likely have to make other arrangements.

Thanks so much,
Zoë

Eric at 1:13pm (only 20 minutes later!):

Hello, Zoë. Thanks so much for your purchase! I am sorry to say that I was just about to ship the package in a little bit, via Priority Mail. That would obviously not make it in time for tomorrow. I apologize for letting you down. I would, however, like to offer to send it via Express Mail, for next day delivery. I will run and do that right away, if it sounds ok to you. Of course, there will not be any extra charge for it, rather only a humble apology.

If you decide to make other arrangements, I will, of course, refund your money, and, of course, still offer the humble apology.

Please let me know what you think.

Will keep checking the messages, so that if you decide to go ahead, I can run out to the post office.

Thanks so much.

Eric Masters

Me at 1:21pm:

Hi Eric,

That would be awesome if you could send it Express- I would even pay the shipping if you sent me an invoice! Especially since I didn’t write you a message saying how nice it would be to have it by Saturday, which is my fault.

I wouldn’t think of returning it! It is way too awesome! I just meant last minute arrangements so that I didn’t show up empty handed :)

I very much appreciate your response and offer to run to the post office for me. And truly, I will pay for the Express shipping.

Thanks again,

Zoë

Eric at 1:27pm (and he includes my umlaut!):

Zoë,

I thank you for your kindness, generosity, and business. I am off to the p.o. right now. Want to make you happy and satisfied. I will not take any more money from you, but what I do want is to hear about the smile (hopefully) on your father’s face when he sees the clock.

Thanks, again, for being so kind and understanding.

Running off now.

Please let me know if I can help with anything, and know that I will be here for you until you, and your father, are completely satisfied with the clock, and the experience

Thanks, and peace!

Eric M

Me:

Eric,

Thank you bunches and bunches. You have been very awesome to deal with and I will certainly let you know about the smiles!!

Thank you thank you thank you:)

Zoë

Eric:

Hiya Zoë,

Well, your are very welcome, and a wonderful customer. Thank you x 1,000,000! I am back from the p.o., and they said it should be there by noon.

Happy Birthday to your father.

Yours,

Eric

This whole experience completely blew my mind. And granted he is selling items on etsy, not providing something horrible and nasty and difficult like cable, but still- he totally wins in my book.

…and the fact that his shit is awesome.
