Just a little bit of History repeating

April 21st, 2010 § 3

Quite the prep today.

This guy said that I look like Restoration Hardware.

I can dig it.

So, big mistake making Joe pose for his breakfast yesterday.

He’s totally running the show now.

Literally, as soon as we walk out on the roof, he flies from his bed on down and does the ridiculous pigeon walk all the way to us, ready for his photo shoot.

He’s like the worst stage mom ever.

Bottom Up:

Shoes: Seychelles

Navy Skinnies: Forever21

All girls should have a poem

Cloudy.

Windy.

Chilly.

Yeah hi, Duncan.

He’s hiding.

And this is Joe.

He’s been seen on the blog numerous times.

He’s our Fancy Pigeon friend.

He was hungry this morning so we told him he needed to pose for his breakfast.

He has feathers on his feet which you probably cannot see.

Just another day at the zoo, folks.

I saw a film today, oh boy

April 19th, 2010 § 3

So, I’m just totally disappointed.

And be prepared for a {completely non-fashion related} rant here.

First and foremost: This rant is about the book House of Leaves, if you haven’t read it- then please do not continue reading this post.

Go out- read the book- then come back and have your mind blown.

If on the other hand you have read the book, then hello to you, my new bff.

Ok, so assuming you listened above- you are reading this because you understand the things that I am about to say.

In House of Leaves, the house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, right? Remember?

Yes.

One of the chapter titles {of Johnny’s choosing, I assume, but can’t remember) is “I saw a film today, oh boy” which as we all remember is a line in The Beatles’, ‘A Day in the Life’. WHICH as we all remember is also a horrifyingly creepy song.

But this {aside from the creep factor} is so fucking interesting it’s unreal.

So one day, being the gigantic nerd I am, I was doing recreational research about the book and stumbled upon an essay written about this coincidence.

Apparently, with the release of Sgt. Pepper on vinyl, they {the Beatles collectively? I dunno} decided to etch a never-ending loop into the last ring of the album.

Making that album.

Essentially.

Bigger on

the inside

than it

is

on the

outside.

Which, with that knowledge explains my utter freak out last night when that song came on one of the albums my Dad just loaded on us {thanks again, Dad!}.

I was gonna hear it.

That never-ending loop.

Holy. Shit.

But of course, it wasn’t Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

It was The Beatles / 1967-1970.

Which promptly ends after the last song on both Side A and Side B.

Bottom Up:

And if you care: I will be re-reading House of Leaves this Summer.

And if you fancy a mindfuck, you should too.

A smile on my face and a stain on my pants

April 15th, 2010 § 0

As I may or may not have mentioned– I had the GRAND pleasure of meeting some of the lovely literary ladies of my favorite site on the block, Modcloth.

And whodathunk they’d put your truly on their blog?!

Or maybe it’s too good to be true and I just made it all up.

You may just have to see for yourselves.

Love that guitar. It sounds so tuned.

The status of fashion

April 14th, 2010 § 5

So again, I am essentially a brand new baby when it comes to blog-land.

I have followed many, peeked in on many, and then essentially hid.

However, now that the times are a’changing, I have a few things to say.

The first of those things is:

meggstatus.

Until maybe two weeks ago {give or take} I found out about and joined Chictopia.

It is truly amazing.

Not only is it an entire community dedicated to street fashion {I guess that’s what it’s called?}, but it is the most glorious land of inspiration you could imagine.

Mainly, because of folks like meggstatus.

Don’t get me wrong.

I love a real, shiny, expensive, drolly high-fashion mag/blog/what-have-you.

But what seriously gets my blood hot is ladies {and gentlemen, ahem} who are absolute thrift-masters.

True artists.

It’s not as easy as a trend. It’s not as easy as a mall. It’s not as easy an Olsen Twin.

It’s really fucking hard.

But it is the most rewarding thing (in my opinion) to find even one absolute treasure on a day of thrifting.

And that’s still not even half the battle.

Looking at a closet full of items from different people, lifetimes, decades, and countries can be so overwhelming when it comes to putting together something that is cohesive, comfortable, and not flat-out disgusting or tacky.

It can also take a toll on your editing skills. It is an easy temptation to just try everything. All at once.

And meggstatus has perfected the art.

Fortunately, places like Chictopia, Weardrobe, Lookbook.nu, and just all of our blogs in general {essentially: the world wide web. Thanks, 1996.} remind us how amazing it truly is to not only be thrifty, but incredibly chic, inspirational, stylish, lovely, rule-breaking sons of bitches.

So cheers to us.

And cheers to you, meggstatus.

Royale with cheese

April 14th, 2010 § 2

Ah, what a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

The sun is begging us to wear our neon shoes.

We abide.

Bottom Up:

Shoes: Macys

(These were brought to me in part by the letter ‘Gift Card’. They’re Kensie Girl, and they’re tennis ball yellow. This is their first time out of the box.)

Grey Jeans: Forever21

Big blue blouse: Thrifted

Very simple today. The loud shoe needs no accessories. And I was really distracted this morning for no reason at all. I couldn’t even stand still in my pictures.

Cheers to you, Hump Day.
